Weekend Food Truck Events: June 19-22

This week’s highlight… Cary’s first Rodeo!

Thursday, June 19th

Pickin’ In The Plaza

Triangle Explorer reminded me about this awhile back, but I knowing Jamie Katz is a great resource with Bluegrass music – I found this on pinecone.org.  The trucks and vendors scheduled are The Humble Pig, Sweetwater Ices, Tarheel Creamery, House of Swank, The Record Krate, Oak City Collective, Bordeaux Lane Studio, Chirba Chirba, and Hibachi Xpress.

June 19th Event

RTP Rodeo (2335 Presidential Drive, Durham)

Baguettaboutit and Koinonia are hosting a food truck rodeo near their locations from 5 to 7:3pm. The food truck line-up includes Belgian Waffology, Captain Ponchos, Gussy’s Greek Truck, Sarges Chef on Wheels, and Sweet Traditions by LeAne.

Friday, June 20th

PNC Downtown Movie Series (Downtown Raleigh)

This Friday in Raleigh’s City Plaza, Iron Man 3 will be shown.  The event starts around 5:30 with live music by Laura Reed Band and food trucks.  When the sun goes down (around 8:30), the show goes on.  Food truck line-up is usually announced on Thursday on their Facebook Page.

Saturday, June 21st

Peak City Pig Fest (Downtown Apex)

During Saturdays festivities, there will be a food truck rodeo with food trucks and vendors.  Based on my research, and no surprise to me, Big Mike’s BBQ, Humble PigPorchetta, and Tailgater Toby are scheduled here.  The event is scheduled from 9am to 5pm.

1st Annual NC Food Truck State Championships (Randleman)

On Saturday food trucks will compete in Randleman, NC to find out who is the best.  The judging looks to be based on Taste, Presentation, and the People’s Choice.  The prize looks to be a cruise.  Also here, there will also be music, a corn hole tournament, and a farmers market.  I don’t have much more information other than this call 336-495-7502 for more details.

Food trucks participating: King Creole, The Great Escape, Bandito Burrito, Camel City Grill, Hibachi Express, Chick-N-Que, Captain Poncho’s Tacos, Urban Street Grill, D’s Cakes in a Cup, Mama Dukes, Wright Up Ur Galley, Frogs Toadly Good Eats, Will & Pops, Kona Ice, Organic Bean, Valentino’s, and Taqueria El Azteca.

Kirby Derby Day (Raleigh)

This is the 13th Annual event, located near Western and Ashe in Raleigh.  I’ve never been to this event, but it looks like Pie Pushers and Captain Ponchos are scheduled here. For more details, find them here.

Taylor’s Parking Lot Party (10005 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh)

I’ve been by Taylor’s during an event and this place really knows how to party.  Which brings no surprise that the Triangle Explorer has made this his pick of the week.  Joining into the festivities will be Sol Tacos and Not Just Icing. Event is from 1-4 pm and live music will be provided by George Fuller & Friends.

More details can be found here.

Sunday, June 22nd

NC Food Rodeo is hosting a rodeo on 6/22 in Downtown Greensboro (120 Barnhardt Street, Greensboro, NC), which has Urban Street Grill (cash only truck), Great Escape, Bandito Truck, F’N Wings, Chez Moi, Lee’s Kitchen, and Hibachi Xpress.

Also on Sunday, June 22nd, Tailgater Toby is catering for Hard Knocks’ Summer Block Party.  Hard Knocks looks to me like a lot of fun focusing on something like laser tag, but “on steroids.”  The location is 3501 Spring Forest Road in Raleigh.

Also, Ornamentea is hosting their 4th Sunday Pop-Up Sunday.  This month’s charity is The Green Chair Project. More details on the Pop-Up can be found here.

Cary Rodeo - June 22

Lastly, probably the best news is the Chatham Street Chowdown in Cary.  The line-up is pretty solid with American Meltdown, Baguettaboutit, Baton Rouge Cuisine, Big Mike’s BBQ, Chai’s Global Street Food, Deli-icious, Dusty Donuts, Gussy’s Greek Truck, La Farm Bakery, Olio and Aceto, Philly’s Cheesesteaks, Sol Tacos,  Stuft, The Freezing Pointe, and The Humble Pig. Chatham Hill Winery and Fortnight Brewing will serve their tasty beverages as well for the event.  The event will be from 12 to 4pm.

Check out details here.

Favorite Food Truck Poll

Last week I created a Favorite Food Truck poll to gauge what readers thought was their favorite.  The poll started with the winner and finalist from Indy Week’s Best of Triangle.  This week I decided to add those that received votes, since voters have noted these as favorites.  After a few weeks, I’ll post some results.
