Wheels and Mortar: Iced Cupcakes

The Wheels and Mortar series will focus on trucks that have a brick-and-mortar presence.  As trucks develop new strategies that incorporate buildings in addition to their mobile locations, this series will focus on those more permanent/less-mobile strategies.  This segment looks at Iced Cupcakes, a food truck recognized by delivering its baked goods in a vintage postal jeep.

Blog Followers and those around me know that it’s hard to say no to a cupcake.  I wouldn’t say I’m a cupcake connissouer.  But like doughnuts and food trucks, I am known to search for local cupcakes when traveling.  Last month, local food truck Iced Cupcakes found a permanent location in the Poyner Village shopping center near Triangle Town Center mall.

One thing to notice is the location of the shop.  It is easy to get to from 540, near the mall and shopping center’s restaurants, and has a great outdoor area.  The outdoor area has plenty of tables and chairs bordering water nearby, which sometimes has live music playing.

Inside guests will find the varieties they enjoyed from the truck with a rotation seasonal menu.  If you are thirsty, Iced has Durham made BROOD soda available. For those less bashful and want to be famous, there’s a Selfie wall in the back of the store.  Here guests can snap a picture and apply the store’s hashtag.  Each month the store will select a winning photo, where the winner will receive a dozen cupcakes.

Families looking for a place for a party location can look at Iced as well.  The location organizes “Create Your Own Cupcake Party” where children can decorate their own cupcakes.  During the grand opening, I was able to witness this and kids enjoyed able to use their unique creativity.
