On May 2nd, 11 of Charlotte’s finest food trucks will roll into the South End lot and battle to be crowned Best Food Truck in the Queen’s City. As I mentioned in the introduction, I enjoyed the event last year event.
Updated May 1st to include recent changes.
This is the 3rd annual event where food trucks will compete for Chef’s Choice, Mystery Ingredient, and People’s Choice. The event will also run concurrently with South End Art and Soul festival. This will bring more live music and vendors to the area.
The food trucks in the competition include:
The Tin Kitchen (2013 and 2014 Chef’s Choice, undefeated!)
Hot Box Comfort Foods (last year’s Secret Ingredient and People’s Choice)
The Chrome Toaster
Wingzza
Gourmet Goombahs
Roaming Fork
Sal’s Roadside Eatery
JJ’s Red Hots
Street Spice Sliders
KO Food Truck
Southern Cake Queen
For the secret ingredient, chef’s will have to use local Cackalacky Sweet Cheerwine Sauce into their menu. It will be interesting to see how these trucks will use that.
Tickets for the event are divided up to different denominations starting at one truck for $7. My recommendation is to spend $48.07 ($45 + $3.47 fee) to enjoy all the trucks in attendance. That’s almost $4 per truck. Remember the net proceeds go to Relay for Life, a charity associated with the American Cancer Society.
To purchase tickets, visit their Eventbrite site.

Travel Information
On the Eventbrite site, there is an Uber code for transportation. This would be great for residents and visitors. For those outside of Charlotte, you can stay in Uptown Charlotte (plenty of hotels there) and ride the Lynx (Charlotte’s Light Rail) to Bland Street Station.
