Will all come together on Main Street near the Garner Lions Club (Main Street between Montague and Rand Mill Road). Parking is all over, but Main Street will be closed between Montague and Rand Mill.

The event will be from 12-4pm

Cock-a-Doodle Moo sets dates

So far I’ve seen October 13th (next Monday) at Raleigh Brewing and the following Tuesday, October 21st at Nickelpoint. Can’t miss this truck, it truly is a Big Red truck.

Still Sizzling News

Green Olive Deli selling their truck

See below for more details on buying the truck, but it pains me to report that a truck is coming off the roster.  I certainly enjoyed a few of the sandwiches I’ve eaten from here.

Tootie’s Bar crowd funding project

Carpe Durham tweeted Tootie’s in Durham is raising funds for a live music venue and bar in Durham.  Check out some of their perks which extend out to Funnel Bakes and Urban Entrees.  They are looking to raise $25,000 in over a month with this project.

KoKyu Chef honored

Edward Cumming, a KoKyu BBQ cook, is one of four chefs battling in New Orleans in the Ment’or Young Chef Competition.  The cool part he is up against cook and chefs at ZZest Restaurant (Rochester, MN), Buchon Bistro Beverly Hills (Baldwin Park, CA), and Sunset Grille (Hilton Head Island, SC), which are all brick and mortar locations.  The competition is being held at Emeril’s in New Orleans and other young chefs will compete in Miami, New York City, and Los Angeles.  So Edward could be one of four winners in this competition.  Be sure to think of him on October 19th.  More details about the competition and tickets, see the site.

Sōl Tapas estarán en el centro de Raleigh

Translation (I hope my years of Spanish doesn’t fail me), Sōl Tapas will be in Downtown Raleigh early 2015.  That’s all fans got this weekend.  Arguably, Sōl Tacos has been hugely popular and probably the hottest truck this year.  No details on the location, but people are already lined up.  One possible hint of what to expect: Chef Schaumann is doing a Pop-up Dinner at Deep River Brewing November 5th.

Deli-icious gets a “deli”

Deliicious-1

More details on Deli-icious was revealed at Double Barley’s Food Truck Rodeo.  They were advertising the location is in Clayton.  Still hungry for information, I found out it is really close to US 70 and near the Garner/Clayton boundary.  Chef Suzie is very excited   (and anxious) since the location will offer a strategic location for the catering side of their business. I’ve been told the next few weeks a larger reveal is happening.  Deli-icious’ concept is a fresh concept.  With their custom hashtag #getfreshwithus and slogan “vegetarians in disguise” they offer options that are healthier and cater to special diets.

Upcoming Rodeos: Raleigh, Garner, and Wake Forest

You’d be amazed how many people come up and ask me if I knew about the below rodeos… be the know-it-all in your group and study these dates below!

Also, as previously mentioned, Wake Forest will round-up trucks again on November 9th.  The line-up has not been announced, but the location is the same spot at the Over The Falls Center on Elm and Brooks in Wake Forest.  The date has been set for November 9th.  Check out more details on their Facebook Page here.

Big Mike’s BBQ

The blog reported earlier in the summer that Big Mike’s BBQ left View Bar on Glenwood (which subsequently closed) and hinted on Twitter of a restaurant opening.  I took down the update as I hadn’t heard anything.  The buzz has came back and Big Mike’s BBQ recently dropped location details, but no opening date.  The restaurant is near High House and Maynard, across from Kroger at 1222 NW Maynard Road.  Excited to see the Piggy Mac and Redneck Nachos finding a permanent home soon.  I’ve heard rumors that this location is going to be more than just BBQ!

Nickelpoint Brewery Now Open

Part of what is become a nice pocket of breweries (Big Boss, Sub Noir, and now Nickelpoint), Nickelpoint is looking to fill its taproom hours with food trucks.  The brewery has a taproom with TV and outside seating area. Wednesdays are exciting, too, as they hold a corn hole tournament (and food truck AmigoSan and Bo’s Kitchen are on the schedule this month).  Contact Greg at the brewery to get on their schedule (it looks like it is filling up).

…you want more?!

I overheard Neuse River Brewing is getting really close (on Pershing like Nickelpoint) and Blackjack Brewing Company (on Whitaker Mill near Sub Noir).  It’s great to see a nice little district/pocket occurring there where people can hopefully walk to them.

World’s Largest Food Truck Festival III coming

GenFoodTruckRecordHolder

Awhile back Generation Food Truck down in Tampa, Florida organized the largest food truck parade in March 2014.  Looks like they want to organize another one this March 2015.  The goal is to have over 200 food trucks at the State Fairgrounds outside of Tampa.  If interested, email the organizer at Generationfoodtruck (at) gmail (dot) com.

New Whips

New Trucks!

For those that follow me on Twitter and Facebook, you may have noticed I was on vacation.  Of course, when you think very little is going on, something comes on the radar.

SoomSoomPita (@soomsoompita) announced they are putting on those finishing touches.  No first event date yet announced.

And while I was out, Triangle Explorer alerted me that Carpe Durham tweeted about Bull City Street Food (@bullcitystfood) being at the Green Room in Durham. The truck has had a couple events, but this is one of the first events they had in the Triangle.

AmigoSan-1Amigosan Food Truck

This Latin-Asian fusion truck has been hitting the asphalt tires screeching.  Last week, they were a last minute surprise at Big Boss’ Run Club, spotted at Shop Local Raleigh’s Glenwood South Concert Series, and Railhawks games.  If you haven’t seen them, follow the truck @AmigosanFood and check out their schedule at Amigosanfood.com.

BamPowChow-1Bam Pow Chow

Bam Pow Chow has been hitting the streets, too and making appearances in the Northwest Raleigh.  They have been spotted at House of Hops, Lonerider, Gizmo Brewworks, and Person Street Bar.  Their website has posted a few scheduled events bampowchow.com and you can also follow the truck @BamPowChow.

KocinA-3KocinA Food Truck

Hopefully you caught the recent post about them on Behind The Wheel. This truck focuses on South American tapas and cuisine.  You can catch them on Twitter: @kocinafoodtruck

New Rest Stops

Where are trucks being spotted…

  • House of Hops (6909 Glenwood Ave #100, Raleigh):  This spot has been very hot with activity.  Baguettaboutit. Kocina, Big John’s and Bam Pow Chow were all spotted here over the last two weeks.  The craft beer shop is located near Glenwood and Millbrook/Duraleigh (behind the Walgreens), which means a nice Northwest Raleigh food truck spot.
  • Person Street Bar (805 N Person St, Raleigh): I always like it when a bar/brewery and food truck can come together.  Both can come in with their specialities and exceed on expectations on both ends.  So far, Bam Pow Chow, Dump Pho King TruckHanu, Green Olive Deli Truck, Not Just Icing, and Will and Pops parked here.
  • Beer Durham (404 Hunt Street, Durham): Again, beer and food trucks collaborating!  This neighborhood bottle shop has 20 beers on tap where you can refill growlers and now enjoy food trucks.  I spoke with Ashley at the location and they are excited to have trucks be there.  The location is in a multi-story mixed building a block away from Durham Central Park.  I’ve seen Bo’s Kitchen, Porchetta, Sol Tacos and The Wicked Biscuit here with Bam Pow Chow listed the upcoming week.
  • Marathon Gas Station, Five Points (1641 Glenwood Ave) on Fridays from 5-10pm the as close to Philly as you can get Philly Cheesesteaks food truck will be parked here.
  • Plantation Point Farmers Market: There is a new farmers market in North Raleigh, located at 6250 Plantation Center Dr (I-540 and Capital Blvd, next to BJ’s/Big Lots/Petco) that is food truck friendly.  The organizers’ goal is to have two trucks, one entree and one dessert, and running the market year-round.

The cafe has issues new hours this past week.  Monday through Friday you can eat there 10:30am to 8:00pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 8:00pm and Sunday 8:00am to 2:00pm.  Both Saturday and Sunday have brunch items and Tuesday’s Special revolves around tacos.  The menu also will start to look like the season with more Fall like items.

400 S. Elliott Road (Chapel Hill).  Note new Cafe Twitter handle: .

Sarge’s

400 Southtown Circle (Rolesville)

Coming Soon!

Last week, the blog announced two trucks getting store locations. Captain Poncho’s will open a location in Southern Village in Chapel Hill.  Sweet Traditions (previously used “by LeAne” in their name) will open at Wake Forest Crossing with an address of 12516 Capital Blvd in Wake Forest.  Sweet Traditions has been posting pictures on the renovations on their Facebook page.

Brewgaloo

This event has been around, but this year was my first time.  For beer (and spirits as local TOPO Distillery was here this year) and food truck fans, this is a prime event.  Two stages on both ends of Fayetteville Street with beer and food trucks filling the asphalt in between.  The date set is April 25, 2015 and is from 2-10pm.  I know a bit early, but you might want to circle it and tell your family this is a great weekend to visit.
