A new truck, Thai Box Zing, has hit the streets. Here are some quick facts on the food truck
Yesterday, I finally got a taste of what I think will be a hot truck this year. The truck hit the streets a few weeks ago and the feedback I’ve heard has been all great. So when I saw they were nearby, I had to wander over.
About the Truck
One thing you will notice with this food truck is they are very good at what they are doing. No surprise to find the owners have been in the industry before in California before. They are also connected to the Thai China Buffet, a restaurant in South Durham. For lunch the restaurant serves a buffet of Thai and Laotian dishes. For dinner, the menu is more of a sit down, table side experience. I enjoy the table side versus buffet, so I can’t wait to try it out.
About the Cuisine
The menu is very streamlined with favorites like Pad Thai, Papaya Salad, and Chicken Basil. One dish I enjoy is Chicken Basil. While many order Pad Thai, I am usually the odd man out with my Kra Prow at Thai restaurants. With this order of Chicken Basil, I upgraded to a combo which included a Thai Spring Roll and a Drink. My initial take was great flavor and great kick. Flipping through the card catalog of past Thai experiences, it tasted comparable to a my workday Thai lunch spot.
I am excited to see what else may come with Thai Box Zing. For instance, one of the owners is Laotian. This is why you see “Thai and Lao street cuisine with a a punch.” So I think you might see more inspiration from the landlocked nation in future menu items.
Upcoming Events
If you are reading this on the post date, Thai Box Zing will be at Grove Winery for their monthly Food Truck Rodeo. If you missed that, check out the food truck’s calendar.
