Behind The Wheel – Rerun #1 – 2014

One of the great advantages of food trucks is that owners are on the truck daily. This brings a tight bond between the owner and their hungry patrons. Since many of us only get that small time between ordering and grabbing our food, I wanted to help bring us together. That’s when I got the idea, Behind The Wheel. Gets me back to telling the story and further enjoying – being around food trucks.

For the holidays, I thought it would be great to go back and look at 2014’s Behind The Wheel posts. This week we’ll look at Bo’s Kitchen, Barone Meatball, Jay’s Italian Ice, and Not Just Icing.

Art and Labor: Not Just Icing

Occasionally, I can convince a food truck owner to let me on their truck (or maybe it’s vice versa).  What they think they are getting is free labor, but actually I just want to get closer to the food.  I am sure on Admin day when they recall their food costs for that day, an abnormal increase in food costs and decline in revenues occurred.  This segment focuses on the cupcake truck, Not Just Icing.

June 15th Durham Rodeo Recap – Part 1

We are deep into the season and Durham kicked off another one in its series in Downtown Durham’s Central Park.  I have to go back to the Triangle Food Truck Historical Society (an idea of mine, but just funding has been tight) to confirm that these Durham rodeos were the birthplace of the rodeo.  With that in mind, it is no surprise as these are very well run, entertaining with live music, and plenty of green space to kick soccer balls, lay down a blanket or chairs.

For those of you that went, check out some reminders of an awesome time.  For those that missed it, feel free to catch some of the highlights.  I got a new lens for my camera.  As a result, gadgets and me is like a kid with a new toy.  We will have Part 1 today with undetermined amount of parts later.  If you are interested in the next rodeo: August 31st is the next date.

Stuft's wrap is very cool. The "we scrub our skins" always gives me a chuckle (very witty).
