May 2-4: Food Truck Events

Happy May Day everyone!  If you haven’t made plans this weekend, here is where some of the Triangle food trucks will be at.

Regular locations: RTP Rodeo (Friday), Hunt Street Art Market/Durham Central Park/Farmers Market (Saturday), Carrboro Farmers Market (Saturday)

First Thursday at Oval Park

May 1st – 5 to 7 PM – 1100 Oakland Ave

I have not done this one (and I cannot make this one), but on the First Thursday of every a small rodeo takes place at Oval Park in Durham.

Food Trucks for the Food System

May 2nd – 6 to 8 PM – 301 W. Main Street, Carrboro

This is a mini-rodeo to help raise money and awareness for a UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health Class (NUTR 245 – Sustainable Local Food Systems) for the student’s host sites.  These host sites are: Eastern Carolina Organics, Bountiful Backyards, Carolina Campus Community Garden, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, Abundance Foundation, and the Carrboro Farmers’ Market.

Food Trucks scheduled: American Meltdown, Capps Apizza, Captain Ponchos,  Chirba Chirba, and The Parlour

Bull City Sculpture Show

Grand Opening Gala: May 2nd – 6:30 to 10 PM – Durham Central Park

This event is not just one event, but a series of events.  On Friday, Carrie MarshallWyatt EasterlingBlack Dog Syndrome and Individually Twisted will perform while Chick-N-Que, Pie Pushers, and Bang Bang Banh Mi food trucks will serve and Daisy Cakes will stay open. On Saturday, there will be a Bronze Pour in the Hill Pavillion (538 Foster St) from 10 am-12 Noon and then a Walking tour from 1-3 PM of 12 sculptures.  If walking sounds boring, you can do it by Biker Bar NC.

Apex PeakFest

May 3rd – 9 to 5 PM – Downtown Apex

The 34th Annual Peak Fest brings family fun and activities showcased in downtown Apex. Food Trucks scheduled: Baguettaboutit.

Gizmo Brew Works First Anniversary

May 3rd – Noon to 8 PM – 5907 Triangle Drive

The local brewery turns 1 and will release their summer seasonal, Beekeeper (Honey Wheat).  Food Trucks Liv’s, Not Just Icing, and Red Hot and Blue will be there.  Live Music by Birds and Arrows, Morning Brigade, Embers End, Built for Comfort, and Jesse Wooten.

Meet in the Street – Wake Forest

May 3rd – 10 to 4 PM – 302 Brooks Street

The 34th Annual festival where Wake Forest rolls out family fun with music, vendors, activities and food trucks.

The Food Trucks and vendors scheduled: Big Al’s BBQ, Bigg Heads, Cafe Prost, Charlie’s Kabob Grill, Chirba Chirba, Coble Concessions, Crossroads Popcorn Concessions, D&J Concessions, Gussy’s Greek Food, Hibachi Xpress, JAM Ice Cream, Kona Ice of Raleigh, Lunch Boxx, Olde English Tea Room, Lemon Tree,  Sherri’s Crab Cakes, Smitty’s Homeade Ice Cream, and We Bea Grillin.

OUT! Raleigh 2014

May 3rd – 11am to 6pm – Fayetteville Street

This is the 3rd annual festival organized by the LGBT Center of  Raleigh that has live music, family activities, and food trucks.

The Truck and Food Vendor Line-up: Barone Meatball, Captain Ponchos’s, Chai’s Global Street Food, Cherokee Cuisine, Citizen Pops, D’Burritos, Deli-icious, Healthy Grill on Wheels, The Humble Pig, MMMoore Cakes, Parlez-Vous Crepe, Party in a Pita, Rainbow Kettle Corn, SweetWater Ices, Tar Heel Creamery, and Tropical Ice.

Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo

May 4th – Fayetteville Street

If the above events were not enough, here is one of the largest events of the year takes over Downtown Raleigh.  Food trucks will take over Fayetteville Street.

Carrboro Day

May 4th – 1 to 6pm – 301 W. Main Street (Carrboro)

Carrboro celebrates its uniqueness with music, activities and food trucks.  Food Trucks scheduled: Pie Pushers, Chai’s Global Street Food.

A Dump Pho King Truck Reveal

I guess I have to admit when my friend, Triangle Explorer, posted about the Dump Pho King Truck, I thought it might be a joke. The tagline is two girls, one truck, the name is phonetically witty, but can turn-off a few.  Also, most Kickstarter, or crowd funding, usually take an established brand and push it to the next level. But this was the first Kickstarter I can think of where it came out of nowhere and was funded successfully. And if you were puzzled on how this happened, as was I, you never met Sophia and Sunny.

My Saturday with Food Trucks

I had a mission today.  When I told people of my route, they thought I was crazy.  But when you have wanderlust in your heart, you make do with what you got.  I love my wife, but she would definitely say no to my little plan.  Luckily she was scheduled to work and I had the earlier half of the day to myself.
